York Catholic Teachers:
Voices for Public Education
The provincial election was an opportunity for teachers to come together and defend public education, and York Catholic Teachers did exactly that! In the weeks leading up to the election, members shared powerful classroom experiences, mobilized voters, participated in training sessions, posted on social media, and canvassed in support of education-friendly candidates. YCT members also broadened their reach throughout the GTA, joining forces with neighbouring local units to strengthen our collective voice. These contributions, both big and small, played a vital role in raising public awareness about the importance of investing in education.
Though the election results weren’t what we hoped for, our work held significant value. In a snap election with a divisive political landscape, we saw an increase in voter turnout and successfully flipped three seats previously held by the incumbent government. These small wins are proof that collective action is powerful. Even with the provincial election behind us, our commitment to positive change remains. We must continue to champion education in our professional and personal lives, keeping the conversation alive and driving progress in the right direction. Sharing our firsthand experiences remains our most powerful tool. Take the time to let your friends and family know about the realities within our classrooms. Please encourage them to visit www.knowmore.ca to gain a deeper understanding of the current challenges facing Ontario’s public education system. Share your story with Ontarians and record a short video of the investments you want to see made in our classrooms. We can make a difference, and we will keep powering change together.
