FAQ Frequently Asked Questions
Q: I need WSIB help. Who do I contact?
A: Occasional Teachers contact Anna Polisco and Permanent Teachers contact Karen Ebanks at the Unit Office.
The Unit Office must be cc’d on all WSIB Communications between you and the Employer.
Q: I took a ball to the head. What are my steps?
A:
- Report accident to Administrator who must complete Parklane
- Seek medical treatment
- Request WSIB form 8 from Health Professional, email page 2 to Employer
- If advised to stay home, follow medical advice and enter WSIB-pending absence code
- Employer will complete WSIB form 7, where they report accident, and provide you a copy
- Employer will ask you to complete WSIB form 6, where you report accident, and request a copy
Q: I was struck by a student at work. Why are my sick days being deducted?
A: Sick days are temporarily being deducted under the WSIB-pending code during claim adjudication. Upon claim approval, your sick days will be returned to you and your absences coded WSIB-approved. The Employer may erroneously flag you for Attendance Management during claim adjudication, and unflag you upon claim approval.
Q: I have a specialist appointment due to my workplace injury. Is this a sick day or a specialist appointment day?
A: Neither. This is a WSIB-pending day. It will temporarily deduct a sick day. Advise the Employer of the appointment date and reason via email. Employer will share this email with the WSIB who will adjudicate the lost time from work. Once approved, WSIB-pending changes to WSIB-approved, with return of sick day.
Q: I was offered modified work by the Employer. Do I have to take it?
A: No. The Employer is required to offer you modified work. Share the offer with your Health Professional and follow their advice as they are best qualified to decide whether or not the offer of modified work is safe for you at this time.
Q: My mental health is being affected by work. Is this a WSIB claim?
A: It could be. Review WSIB Traumatic Mental Stress and the Chronic Mental Stress policies for more information. If applicable, also file under appropriate Employer policies.
